Willam Willberforce
At 1787 William Willberforce formed the 'Society for Abolition of the Slave Trade'. William Willberforce tried many ways to abolition Slavery. He took it to parliament but this was hard to convinced the MPs to get rid of slavery as so many of them had slaves themselves. He also wrote letters to the parliament, wrote in newspapers because only the rich brought newspapers (they were the only ones who could read. Another method they was that a former slave Olaudah Equiano wrote a book called 'The interesting Narrative of Olaudah Equiangular or Gustavus Vassa'. It was called this because his real name is Olaudah Equiano and his masters changed his name to Gustavus Vassa so it was easier to say. One of the most popular songs in their times was 'Amazing Grace' sung and wrote by John Newton who was a former slave ship captain. In 1807 the slave Trade was abolished in Britain. This was an achievement bid out they still wanted to get rid of slavery all over the world. 1807 was a huge year for slave as slave Trading was made illegal. In 1833 parliament passed the Slavery Abolition which meant that all slavery in Britain Empire had their freedom. Finally 60 years later the slave trade had abolished completely.
